What an inspiring group of Young Composers! Each performer demonstrated original works, improvisations and personalized versions of their favourites. There were even two parent/child duets! Thank you to all who came and shared. Keep on writing everyone!

"Young" Composers Laboratory - Feb 26, March 12 and March 26 2023
New composers came to the workshops throughout February and March. It was a wonderful meeting of curious, open minds that stimulated conversation about what composing, music and honing a craft entails. Participants walked away with some new methods to try and some new contacts! We even had a surprise visit from a Serpent!

Master of the keys, Bryan Binnema, uncovered literary devices for understanding a story structure. He then relayed how to envision instrumental music with this arch in mind. The resulting music is full of character with dramatic peaks and valleys!

All Ages "Show & Tell" + Isaac Malmgren Recital on March 27th, 2022
Celebrating a semester of hard work and study, students of all ages took part in an unconventional recital where-in each performer volunteered to improvise/perform a piece/talk about what they are learning! Complete with satellite performances from distance students the entire room provided a supportive and interactive atmosphere. This was followed by a full recital by Isaac Malmgren and special guest bassist Gabrielle Ng playing jazz standards and classical pieces by Rachmaninoff, Debussy and Bach.

Róisín was the featured artist on this month's Project Connect. She played everyone her beloved pieces by her favourite composers Bach, Debussy, Chopin, Joplin, Monk and Brubeck. Participants drew, danced, sang, moved and watched intently as the musical stories unfolded.
